Vaseline: Much more useful than you might think

Vaseline is a product that many of us use practically on a daily basis and as I have grown older, I have used it for more and more things. In all these years, I have been researching and through trial and error I have discovered that Vaseline is a basic beauty product that I recommend everyone to have a small tube in their drawer as you never know when you will need it.

What it is for? Well, for the lips and…

I am sure that, if you ask anyone, the first use that comes to mind for Vaseline is for chapped lips. Who has not had a chapped lip, especially in winter, and reached for a tube or a jar of Vaseline? I firmly believe that it is one of the most used gestures in cosmetics.

But we can use it not only when we have cracks on the lips, Vaseline is a substance that can be applied to minor burns, as it will promote the regeneration of the skin much faster as well as making a protective layer.

Vaseline for dry and/or chapped skin.

If we have dry and/or chapped skin, it will prevent the skin from losing more water because it is very occlusive. For many months we have been using hydroalcoholic gels that dry out our hands a lot.

If we use it as a hand mask at night and wear cotton gloves to sleep, the skin will regenerate much faster.  If we also put a layer of moisturising cream first and a layer of Vaseline on top, we will wake up with much softer and moisturised hands.

For psoriasis or rosacea

Skin with psoriasis or rosacea can also find a great ally in vaseline.

In cases of rosacea, redness is often accompanied by dry, flaky skin, and in this case, the occlusion of the skin by Vaseline will be greatly beneficial.

And in the case of psoriasis, it can make the skin more hydrated and prevent proliferation.

For tattoo’s

If you are thinking about getting a tattoo, you have probably also thought about how to cure it or how to take care of it once it is done.

What worries you most when you get a tattoo is that it might get infected, and vaseline will create a protective film that will prevent infection and also help the skin to regenerate faster, making it easier to heal.

And if that were not enough…

It also has uses in the world of cosmetics and not “only” as a skin regenerator. If you are someone who likes to apply make-up, you have probably more than once struggled with your make-up remover because it does not remove waterproof make-up properly.

The way to use petroleum jelly for this purpose is to put a small amount in your hands and massage the area where you want to remove the most resistant make-up (usually the eyes and lips) and then remove it with a cotton pad or a muslin.

Afterwards, wash your face well with a gel to remove excess product and you will be able to effectively remove all types of make-up.

If you have long hair, it can also be used as an end serum. Apply LITTLE quantity so as not to grease the hair. On clean, dry hair, take, I repeat, an exceedingly small amount and apply it to the ends, this will help to seal them and make them look much healthier and shinier.

Vaseline, Petrolatum… is it dangerous?

Is one of the components of cosmetics that has caused most controversy in recent years. Vaseline is a petroleum derivative and is listed in the INCI (International Nomenclature of Ingredients and Cosmetics) as petrolatum or petrolatum jelly.

For this reason, it has come to be thought that its continued use may be harmful to health. We should know that, if it is allowed in cosmetics, it is completely safe, as it is treated and purified in such a way that all molecules that could be harmful to health and potentially carcinogenic are completely eliminated, so we can use petroleum jelly freely even in children and babies because it is a completely safe product.

These are just a few examples of Vaseline uses, but there are many, many more. I would love to know what uses you have for it and if there are any that you have discovered through this post, is anyone going to include a tube of Vaseline in their next visit to the chemist just in case? ????
