What does CICA mean?
In the cosmetic industry, we find different products with the name “CICA” in their description. The origin of this word comes from Asia, where Centella asiatica began to be called this way. According to legend, Centella asiatica was called “tiger grass” because Bengal tigers heal their wounds by rolling on this plant and licking them with the saliva impregnated with its juice.
The healing properties of pennywort are well known. Over time, the name CICA has been attributed not only to healing or repairing products with Centella asiatica, but to any product that has these properties.
What active ingredients does Uriage Bariéderm Cica Gel Cream contain?
It contains 10.5% of a prebiotic complex that provides skin and microbial barrier repair:
- Inulin (prebiotic): Effect on Staphylococcus epidermidis (SE).
Two important bacteria naturally present on human skin are:
- Staphylococcus epidermidis (SE) – non-pathogenic.
- Staphylococcus aureus (SA) – pathogenic.
The balance of the human skin microbiome (between SE and SA) can be altered by external factors. Maintaining this balance is necessary to keep the skin in optimal condition.
- Centella Asiática known for its restorative properties.
- Hyaluronic acid: We find on the website that this product contains high and low molecular weight HA. If we analyse the formula, we cannot know this, as they have the same INCI designation. Hyaluronic acid is known to bind up to 1000 times its weight in water. The high molecular weight will remain on the surface, creating a moisturising film, and the low molecular weight will be able to penetrate, moisturising deeper and producing a plumping effect.
- Vitamin B5: with a great regenerative capacity, is the star active ingredient in many CICA products that do not contain Centella and owe all their regenerative and healing properties to this vitamin.
- Copper-Zinc complex, with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, they help cell regeneration.
Who is Uriage Bariéderm Cica Gel Cream suitable for?
It is a very light cream, but with active ingredients such as squalene and panthenol that make it ideal for damaged, sensitive and/or dry skin. Both active ingredients repair the skin’s hydrolipidic barrier, preventing the skin from being altered by external agents.
In addition, thanks to its Ceramides content, it is ideal for treating dehydrated skin, as it prevents transepidermal water loss.
What is Uriage Bariderm-CICA like?
It has a noticeably light texture, with emollients such as squalane, an oil that has many affinities with the skin: it is one of the main components of sebum and the hydrolipidic film. It is also emollient and moisturising.

Uriage Bariéderm Cica Gel Cream It is a light cream, ideal for combination, oily and sensitive skin. I have quickly incorporated it into my routine because the feeling of freshness and relief it gives my skin is incredible.
My skin reddens easily due to the use of acids, or retinol, and also due to external causes such as temperature changes or the sun. That is why it is important to have products in my routine that help repair the microbiota and keep my skin in good condition.
