One of the alternatives that we are seeing more and more in our shops is solid cosmetics, with hair cosmetics being the most common and the one that is gaining ground.
Society is becoming more and more concerned about the environment, because if we do not act soon, little by little our little planet will be filling up with more and more rubbish, polluting our seas and oceans.
It is becoming more and more common to see beaches full of plastic waste from the rubbish we use in our daily lives, and which we are not able to recycle properly.
Therefore, the cosmetics industry is increasingly thinking of alternative methods to the use of plastic bottles, in order to avoid generating waste that is difficult to dispose of.
One of the brands that has joined solid hair cosmetics is Modesta Casinello. Its founder and the brand’s namesake define herself on her website as a person who proposes sustainable and responsible cosmetics that are concerned with the how and not just the what, which leads her to bring out her most exploratory self, in a constant search for coherence in her formulas, materials and packaging.
That is why, among its conventional hair products, we found the shampoo and the solid conditioner that we have been able to test.
But what characterises solid cosmetics? As its name suggests, it is a cosmetic in solid tablet form, usually without water, and sometimes, as for example the solid conditioner, composed only of fatty ingredients which, at room temperature, has a solid consistency.
Specifically, Modesta Casinello has among its products this shampoo and this solid conditioner
Modesta Casinello Solid Shampoo
The solid shampoo combines the most famous surfactant of this type of shampoo, SCI or sodium cocoyl isethionate, a surfactant in powder form derived from coconut, with aloe vera, moisturising and revitalising the hair. It is also enriched with coconut oil, which moisturises and nourishes the hair.
Thanks to this widely used surfactant, we will get a solid shampoo that makes a lot of foam.
It is easy to use, rubbing the tablet in the hands or directly on the head, we obtain a dense foam that allows us to clean the hair in a simple way.
Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Glycerin, Cocos Nucifera Oil, Stearic Acid, Parfum, Saccharide Isomerate, Aqua, Aloe Barbadensis Extract, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Limonene, Linalool, Geraniol, Citronellol, Citral.
Modesta Casinello solid conditioner
Solid conditioner is a product that is not as well-known as its companion shampoo, but for some time now, it has been accompanying it in all hair routines for lovers of solid cosmetics.
As mentioned above, it is important when making a solid conditioner that the ingredients remain solid at room temperature. In addition, all its ingredients have the characteristic that its composition is fatty.
Among its ingredients, among the fatty emulsifiers, we find cocoa butter, which is somewhat harder than its sister cousin shea butter, allowing for this hardness. We also find a cationic surfactant that will help us to untangle the hair once the shampoo has been used, as it neutralises the electrical charges that are generated when using an anionic surfactant to clean.
Using a solid conditioner is a bit more complicated than shampooing, but not impossible. The main thing is to get it to soften a bit. My trick: put it under hot running water. Once it is soft, rub it in your hands and get product to distribute through your hair.
Cetearyl Alcohol, Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Butylene Glycol, Parfum, Citral, Limonene, Geraniol.
Review @inside_cosmetics. Micaela’s opinion
I have been using solid shampoos for quite some time. Although I have always been loyal to the ones from the lush shop, I was surprised by this shampoo. It is very easy to use, making a very dense lather. It smells great and leaves my hair clean in one wash.
The conditioner is a bit more difficult to use, and maybe it is more difficult for me to adapt to this product, but it is true that it gives good results.
It is true that for hair that is used to the use of silicones in your routine, I do not recommend that you switch drastically to solid cosmetics, as you will not like the result, as it can leave your hair a bit dry if you are used to the use of silicones.
But if you are used to using solid cosmetics, we absolutely recommend this brand.
