It has been proven that looking good increases our self-esteem and improves our mood. Has it not happened to you that one day you look good and the day you look bad things go wrong? Well, today we are going to see how, through make-up, we can hide the rosacea and acne marks that often cause insecurities and complexes and leave them behind and eat up the world. Let’s go learn how to make up a skin with rosacea.
First of all, I am going to explain what rosacea is. Rosacea is a chronic pathology that tends to affect more people with light skin and whose most common symptom is redness in the central part of the face. It can appear at any age but the most common is that it appears from the age of 30 and in many cases it also causes acne.
It appears due to a dilation of the blood vessels and there are many causes: hot baths, stress, tobacco, alcohol, spicy foods, sun exposure, sudden change in temperature (both in cold and hot environments)…
If you suffer from rosacea, the first thing to do is to go to a dermatologist who will diagnose it and help us to control it, as treatment with medication is often necessary. It is very important to highlight that we should not self-medicate, even if a priori we think that the creams are harmless, for example, a cream with corticoids at the beginning will seem to improve rosacea but the moment you stop taking it, it will get severely worse.
In our daily lives we can also do some things to avoid outbreaks, for example, use specific products for sensitive skin and skin that tends to have redness, dry the skin by touching it instead of dragging the towel, this way we will avoid friction with our skin, use natural soaps and unscented cosmetics and hypo-allergenic, solar factor whenever we go out of the house even if the day is cloudy or cold, we should use a high protection factor… These are just some small guidelines that we can do to prevent our skin from becoming red.
On the contrary, we should avoid exfoliators and peelings, very hot water to wash our face and specific active ingredients such as menthol or camphor.
Now that we have some tricks to control the outbreaks of rosacea we will see how we can make up the skin to disguise that reddish colour that for many people is a serious problem of self-esteem as we said at the beginning.
We must prepare the skin well with a hypoallergenic moisturizing cream to prevent the skin from drying out and then put a pre-base on it so that the make-up we put on it is homogeneous and lasts longer. We can combine several prebases, one that controls the pores where necessary such as on the chin or nose flaps and another moisturizer to make the makeup look more juicy.
To hide the redness of the skin we must correct with a green corrector where necessary. The green colour is the sum of the primary colours yellow and blue, therefore in the colour wheel it is a colour totally opposite to red, that is why one with the other is neutralised. The green corrector is applied where we have the redness and we blur with a soft sponge (in this case it is better a sponge than a brush because with the sponge we apply the make-up with a touch and with the brush we have to drag and we know that in skins with rosacea the less we drag the better). A trick if you have a skin very affected by rosacea can mix the base with the corrector, so we get a base that pulls slightly green and will counteract the red of the skin.
Rosacea skin usually needs a medium-high coverage foundation because we want to cover the skin colour. Depending on the type of skin we have or rather what result we want to obtain, we will use a base with matte or juicy finish. In this case I also like to apply it with a sponge or even with my hands for the same reason as concealer.
After the base, you can use translucent powders to fix the makeup and do not move from its place and also to avoid getting brightness in certain areas, in this case you have to be a little careful and apply a small amount because if we go too far, we can end up highlighting the relief we have on the skin.
To mark the cheeks and give relief to the face, we can use some tanning powders that do not have a too warm tone in the area just above the cheekbone and apply a very subtle peach-tone blush on the apple that stands out when we smile. This play of colours and shades will help us to hide the reddish colour of a rosy skin very much.
Now that with these tricks you can get the rosacea out of sight, dare to use a black eyeliner and red lips, or a powerful smoke and nude lips or just a little mascara and enjoy life. Either way, makeup is there to play with and help us look better. Tell me in the comments what are your makeup tricks to hide the rosacea 😉
