And now in September is the ideal time to resume the routine of personal care that will help us recover our skin. So, how to recover your skin after summer? Keep reading.

As I said in some previous post, September I take it as the “Monday” of the year and it is the perfect time to undertake projects and implement routines. After the summer we have duller skin, it is even possible that some spots have appeared as a consequence of the solar radiation. In addition, as we know, the sun causes premature aging leading to wrinkles, dry and flaky skin with a rough and dehydrated feeling.

Now that the months with the highest solar incidence have passed, let’s try to recover our skin and even improve it.

The first step to prepare the skin for the arrival of autumn is the exfoliation, during these months the skin has suffered much more than usual and we must remove the dead skin and the impurities that have been secreted to have it well prepared for the subsequent treatment. Physical exfoliants can be used (with solid particles that eliminate the impurities) or chemical exfoliants (with ingredients such as lactic acid or salicylic acid among others). I would recommend the former for oily or combination skin, as they will need a deeper cleansing and the latter for mixed to dry skin and even for sensitive skin.

Once we have the skin “naked” and ready for us to give it what it needs, we will put a mask on it to help us repair the skin, a good option is Kiehl’s Calendula and Aloe Mask, because thanks to its gel texture and its ingredients, it will calm, moisturize, soothe and refresh the skin in just 5 minutes and gives you back the “good face” effect. We can also use it up to 3 times a week (even sensitive skin). It is recommended for dull, stressed, tired skin … and that is exactly how we have the skin at the end of summer.

Hydration is another key point to recover the skin. In this case, it is very important to be constant in the morning and at night because after so much exposure to the sun, we usually have dehydrated skin and we have to moisturize it deeply. To carry out a correct hydration we must use creams with ingredients such as niacinamide, which will help us to improve the skin barrier or hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that we have naturally in our body and is one of the most responsible for keeping the skin hydrated and juicy and is also a precursor of collagen, which gives firmness to the skin.

We must not forget that the tanned skin we have in summer is due to the pigmentation of our cells thanks to a substance called melanin. While we keep the brown, these cells are still present in our skin but as the weeks go by, we are losing them and can lead to the appearance of sunspots. To avoid it as much as possible, we must use some depigmenting product. My advice is to use it in a serum, as it will penetrate the deepest layers and, in this case, it should contain between 10 and 20% of vitamin C for us to obtain an optimal result (we must be careful if we use a serum with vitamin C and a cream with niacinamide at the same time because it can cause irritation).

You will see how by following these simple steps you will receive the autumn with a skin prepared for the cold and whatever comes!

Tell me in the comments what care routine you follow at the end of the summer and if you know any extra tips to share with our MLBeauters.

By Mari Paz

During the summer, the skin suffers more than the rest of the months because it is more exposed to external aggressions such as the sun’s rays, chlorine from the swimming pool, sea salt, changes in eating habits… therefore we should take more care of it than during the rest of the year.
