Sometimes we have doubts because, let us face it, make-up is in fashion and there are more and more products on the market, but we cannot always keep up to date. So, foundations and primers, are they the same thing?
Foundation products have been around for years and have become an indispensable element for many of us, but for others they are still unknown, so let us get to know them.
Differences between foundations and primers.
Foundations and primers have nothing in common. While foundation mainly has colour and helps us to unify the tone of our face, primers are applied before it and help us to prepare the skin.
Most of the time, when we are about to apply make-up, we go straight for our foundation and apply it; even without having moisturised our skin beforehand.
This often means that even if the foundation is the right one, it does not leave the expected effect. We tend to walk on the run, and we do not stop to think about the needs of our skin, so let us think about it for a moment and see what type of primer would be recommended in each case:
Mattifying primers.
These are the ones that help us to control shine and also make our foundation more stable.

If you hate those shimmers that appear on your face a few hours after applying foundation, this is definitely the kind of primer you need.
It will extend the life of your foundation, control shine and can be the ideal complement to translucent powders.
To apply it, my trick is to warm the product between your fingers and apply a thin layer only in those areas where you see the most shine: forehead, chin, nose, etc
Illuminating primers.
These are the antagonists of the previous ones. If you love glow, luminous skin that radiates its own light… This is the section for you. Sometimes foundations don’t give us all the light we want and highlighters are too ostentatious, so a luminous primer solves our problem. We can apply it all over the face or just on the areas we want to highlight, such as the upper part of the cheekbone, the brow bone, etc
This type of primer is the one I use the most and if I had to choose just one, I think I would go for Mac cosmetics Strobe Creamin the shade Pinklite. It leaves a luminous and super flattering pearl finish. The other primers in the photo are Bare with me and High Glass by Nyx and Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer by First Aid Beauty
Colour-correcting primers.
They are so called because, unlike the previous ones, these have a very subtle point of colour that helps to unify the tone.
They are the ones I would least bet on if you want to get started in the world of foundations, especially because sometimes colour corrections are not easy and we can be taken for a ride.
As for example, with all those green foundations that we find in the market and that, unless you are related to Shrek, they are useless.
Smoothing primers.
Focus on concealing pores and wrinkles. The best way for them to work is if they penetrate well into those areas where there are wrinkles.
This way, when you apply foundation on top of it, it will look more even and flawless.
The Porefessional by Benefit is one of the most popular and best-performing smoothing or perfecting primers.
Without a doubt, there is a wide variety, but the most important thing is that whenever you apply make-up you always carry out good hygiene and moisturise your face, as well as using sun protection. Once your skin is ready, you can start applying make-up.
Let me know which of these foundations is yours or if you combine them to achieve that dreamy finish we all seek..
