Threading is a hair removal technique to remove hair from small areas such as the eyebrows, chin, upper lip…
Its origin is not clear, but it is an ancient technique that has reached Europe through the Hindu culture. Just look at the brides in India or the Bollywood actresses how they wear their eyebrows always well defined, polished, and perfect.
It is a hair removal technique in which the hair comes out from the root, but it is less aggressive than wax or tweezers as it does not stretch the skin. In addition, thanks to threading we can remove even the tiniest hair when it is practically imperceptible to the eye. Thanks to this, there are no unsightly blackheads left that we can see when we wax or tweeze and the hair is so small that we end up breaking it and have to wait again for it to grow in order to extract it. Precisely for these reasons, the duration of this technique is longer than with wax or tweezers and of course much longer than with a blade, and we can forget about depilation for about three weeks.
Furthermore, as we pull out the hairs from the roots, the hair itself loses strength and becomes thinner and weaker.
Another advantage of this “new” kind of depilation compared to the usual ones is that it can also be done on sensitive skin or even after a peeling, since with this type of skin depilation with wax is not recommended because the heat and the pull irritates the skin.
Threading is much more precise than other methods as it removes hair in rows, so it allows for a cleaner eyebrow design and leaves the upper lip and chin much softer.
The technique itself consists of threading Indian cotton or braided silk thread into an X. Once we have this, we pass it through the row of hairs we want to remove and pull them all out at once and in one go. It is a much faster method than using tweezers because you have to go hair by hair. Then the area is slightly red for about an hour because after all it is an external aggression. We can calm that redness with aloe vera gel that refreshes the area and regenerates.
Many people say that it is a less painful method than any other that consists of pulling out the hair, but let’s not fool ourselves, it is a method that hurts, although it is totally bearable, besides, it is worth it because of the final result we get.
Like all types of hair removal, it also has some drawbacks. The main one is that you cannot do it by yourself, because while someone do it to you, you have to help by stretching the skin with your hands, so it is always going to have some cost if you have to go to some beauty centre and, on the other hand, we must not forget that it is a method that extracts the hair from the root, so it leaves an open pore and there can be a risk of infection by appearing pimples with a whitish head around the follicle that will last a couple of days.
In my opinion, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages and it is the method I have been using since I tried it. And have you tried this method? Would you be encouraged by it? Tell us all about it in the comments ;D
