Which eye shadow should I use?

Which eye shadow should I use?

Good morning and happy Saturday! How are you? I was looking forward to stopping by and immersing myself in the MLBeauty world with you.

Today we are launching a section with a current theme: eye shadows. It is well known that these last months, the mask has turned our eyes into the new protagonist of our look. The expression, “smiling with your eyes” has never been so fashionable!

And that is why, in the next lines we will analyse the different options to get our dream eyeshadow, which fits our life rhythm, and also endure all day long intact. Let us start!

Eyeshadow

What are we looking for?

For years, pressed powder shadows (individual or on palettes), have conquered the market almost entirely.

Now, we can find different textures in addition to these. As are shadows in cream, stick, loose powder, or pigments. Let us see their pros and cons:

Pressed powder eye shadows

Eyeshadows

This format is the classic product that you have seen in perfumeries all your life. They are easy to apply, you need to have a couple of brushes to use them and they are very versatile.

The good thing about the powder is that depending on the brush you use and the pressure you apply with it, you can achieve soft or intense and deep looks. Also, the concept that they are usually sold in palettes, makes it much easier to know how they look between them and to make varied combinations.

On the other hand, we have to have criteria when choosing which powdered shade to buy to avoid getting any headaches. The most common are that they are very dusty and stain the area of the eyelid, that they leave a lot of residue in the folds of the eyelid or that they have bad pigmentation.

The first one is solved by starting the make-up at the eyes, cleaning the skin afterwards and applying the corrector when it is finished and never the other way around. In the second case, we must apply eye primer before applying the shadows so that the colour grabs and does not move, and finally, if it has bad pigmentation or its finish is chalky it is better not to buy it.

And how will we know? By looking for references on the net, google images or in the store. If when you try it, you see that the colour is whitish and nothing like the palette… It is chalky, run away.

Loose powdered eye shadows or pigment

Eyeshadows

A similar product to the previous one but presented in mini jars instead of pallets or godets. It is the pure colour (in powder form) without pressing or reducing with other components.

If you are already an initiate in the makeup world you will love them. The liveliness that these products bring to the look and the look is fantastic. I always use them in gold, copper or rose gold tones to make up the brides and guests of my studio, they give a lot of light and the finish is incredibly special.

What is the problem? Two of the already mentioned. As it is a loose powder, you will have to use a primer yes or yes and it will stain your face. It will have to be our first step.

Shades in cream, in jar or stick

The newcomers (they have become fashionable in the last five years) are already the new queens of the make-up scene. Shades in cream with presentation in jar or stick.

The product is the same, only the way of application varies. In a jar, we will need a brush to reach the shade, while in stick, we can slide it along the whole mobile eyelid directly to provide colour.

The wonderful thing about this texture is that it achieves intensity and duration in seconds, it is homogeneous, very easy to use and perfect for single colour looks or for those who are starting to apply makeup and do not want to invest time or material.

Be careful to apply a lot of product or you may mark the folds. You do not have to worry about anything else, as almost all brands work with long-lasting, waterproof finishes. They will last all day.

These shadows are my choice for make-up in the morning when I do not have much time or when I just want to add a touch of colour.

PROS CONS
PRESSED POWDER Multiple possible combinations. Possible spots under the eyes and folds in the eyelid if not applied carefully.

It needs a brush.

PIGMENT Multiple possible combinations, intensity, and creativity Need for shadow primer.

It needs a brush.

CREAM Waterproof and long wear.

Quick and easy to apply.

Does not stain or move.

Single-colour look.

In jar you need a brush.

They dry if you don’t close them properly, they have a shorter life.

All the versions are good, we just have to analyse what to use each one of them for and which one fits better with our style.

I hope it helped you to decide what your next purchases will be and which product to use in your next look depending on what you are looking for that day.
