At the beginning of the year 2020, none of us could have imagined what was to come. Most of us had never heard that word: CORONAVIRUS. By this time of the year, everyone knows that it is a virus with a space of spikes covering its surface and most importantly, it has changed our lives and the way we relate to people.
One of the measures that we have to adopt to avoid the infection is the use of masks and precisely today we are going to talk about the consequences in our skin.
Masks can affect the skin of our face in different ways, the first one is the most logical, being the cause of lesions due to continuous friction. This means that chafing and erosion can appear in the areas where there is most contact, such as the bridge of the nose, behind the ears or on the cheeks. The best way to avoid this type of injury is to apply pure fragrance free vaseline to the areas marked to protect them.
Secondly, there are people with skin diseases such as dermatitis or acne that may see their pathology worsen and there are even people who can suffer allergic reactions to the material these masks are made of (it is not very common but it is still important). In these cases, the most recommended is a visit to a dermatologist because prescription drugs or creams are probably needed to tackle the problem.
But not only pathological skins suffer the effects of wearing the mask for many hours. We must not forget that masks (especially FFP2 or KN95 but also surgical masks) cause both temperature and humidity to be increased in the area, thus altering the skin barrier. Basically, the masks suffocate the skin due to the occlusive effect of the masks, apart from the fact that they accumulate dirt. This is why, in the situation we find ourselves in, we must more than ever be extremely strict with the double cleansing of the skin.
In these cases, dry skin will be more likely to suffer from skin eczema and oily skin will be more likely to suffer from acne. Also, the state of anxiety and stress to which we are submitted with this situation can worsen the situation of our skin. The good part is that there is a way to deal with it.
Almost a month and a half ago, this was the state of my skin, I was forced to wear a mask 8 hours a day and I started to suffer the consequences.
We can see the pores are open, redness and acne
The first thing I had to do is to change the mask I was using. I started to use the reusable S1 masks (you can get them by writing an email to sales@mlbusiness.co.uk, they sell internationally). These masks are made with a breathable fabric, moreover, because of its composition without antimicrobial, since the material they are made of has silver ions, they are waterproof and do not allow the passage of viruses and bacteria. It is also important to mention that they are much more comfortable as they allow for easy breathing and do not harm the ear area.
In addition to changing my mask, I needed my skin to regenerate with extra cleansing, moisturizing, and nourishing. I started my routine using Filorga Scrub & Mask to oxygenate my complexion, achieve a light exfoliation and a clean pore. My skin was very irritated and reddened, so it was especially important that I used a toner that would help soothe my skin like MG Skincare Radiance Toner. In addition, I needed more nutrition and hydration so the ideal cream to repair the skin was Caudalie Premier Cru with its rich texture.
Following these steps a double cleansing in the morning and at night, after 3 days you could already see a great improvement.
You can see that my acne was mostly gone, the pore is more concealed and there is not as much redness.
After a week, my skin was practically as it is now.
Since then, I have continued using the S1 mask and I have not altered the skin flora and I have kept my skin as usual.
This mask is recommended for everyone, it is especially good for people with sensitive skin (including around the eyes), people with atopic dermatitis or people with rosacea. In addition, it represents a considerable saving considering that it has up to 50 uses, and it will be the star accessory in 2020.
