Here I bring you my summer makeup essentials for the warmer months. I know there are many places where it is still necessary to wear a jacket, but I recommend you save this post because you are really going to need it.
I have spent many years testing summer make-up products that adapt as much as possible to the high summer temperatures and the humidity that we breathe here. That can stand up to sweat, sun, wind, sand… And although I am one of those who goes to the beach with a washed face and full sunscreen, nothing is more pleasurable than getting pretty in the afternoon and going for a walk, a beer, or an ice-cream.
This year, the second year of the pandemic, we have to add the use of a face mask, which is a nuisance for make-up, but for me at least, this year I am prepared for it.
Preparing summer makeup
As I said, the time to shower and get ready after the beach is one of the best things there is.
In summer I go for fresh, simple looks that enhance my tan and I dare to use some colour on my eyes, that is to say, I go out of my neutral brown zone.
Here are my seven must-have products when the heat is on.
1- Resistant foundations:
If you are looking for a fresh, light, low coverage foundation, I highly recommend Make Up Forever’s Watertone, which is immovable and comfortable to wear.
If you want a slightly higher coverage, go for Luminous Silk by Armani, an all-rounder foundation, with a perfect finish and one of the best you can try in summer.
2- Cream bronzers:
Despite what it may seem, a good cream bronzer on a non-removable base, makes these two products a perfect combo, resistant to the most humid climates. I highly recommend Nars Liquid Lagoons, which can withstand the elements, mascaras, high temperatures and storms. Plus, they are super modulable and leave a super healthy, sun-kissed look.
3- Cream blush:
Favourites and low cost. You can find the Revolution Pro ones in the photos below or the ones from the Juicy collection by Kiko Milano. They are immovable and work wonderfully. A tip, the peach tones look beautiful in summer.
4- Illuminators with a touch of fantasy:
If your skin is tanned, it is the perfect time to dare with more daring shades of highlighter. We know how good champagne and nude tones are, but I highly recommend peach, gold, or even violet/pink tones. You will give your cheekbones an extra glow and get out of your comfort zone.
5- Lip tints:
I recommend you in the more liquid/translucent range, I am a big fan of the latter because who does not remember the famous Benetint, it was a must-have back in the day. And although it was endless, I have replaced it several times and I would keep using it for years and years.
Another good and more modern option are the Lip Tattoo by Dior or Clarins, they tint the lips in very fresh tones, moisturise and protect with their multiple oils.
6- Long-lasting eyeshadows:
Or what is better, proof against oily eyelids, creases, sweat, heat, and humidity in the environment.
And here I have it truly clear, the Long-Lasting Stick of Kiko milano, you cannot miss them, a must and completely valid at all times of the year. The range of shades is very complete, and they are immovable.
7- Waterproof mascara:
The perfect summer ally. DiorShow waterproof mascara has been my favourite mascara for a thousand years and I only use it in summer. It does not transfer anything and with a good brush that separates, and leaves lashes supernatural, but beautiful.
For me, these are my best allies for a summer makeup, and I will not get tired of recommending them.
