Welcome to another Sunday and a new article, today we are going to talk about mascara. For me, it is one of the most important products when it comes to make-up. A good mascara is going to get the perfect touch, it is going to open up your eyes and frame them.
In fact, many times when I am in a hurry, it is the only thing I put on when I am out and about. That is why I am always on the lookout for the “perfect mascara”.
I have very few and short eyelashes and what I am looking for is a powerful mascara that gives me volume and length. I have gone shopping and I have been advised in the three categories: one high-end, one “low cost” and one mid-range, which one will win?
High-end mascara
As a high-end mascara, Lancôme’s Hypnôse Waterproof was recommended to me. The first time I used it, I was surprised at how well it combs and separates the lashes.
The goupillon is a cylindrical brush and does not draw too much product (a plus). It is not very wide so you can perfectly comb even the hairs closest to the tear trough and the lower lashes.
The first time I used it, it seemed very liquid, and I did not like it too much, but as it dried, I liked it more and more.
Even so, it does not give me the result I like the most, because, although it combs and separates them very well, it does not give me the volume I am looking for.
But I have discovered a way to use it that I like a lot more, I will tell you about it at the end. Keep reading…
Mid-range mascara
This was the one I was most sure I wanted and when I went to ask, they confirmed what I thought: the NYX On the rise mascara. I had heard so many things about it (most of them good) and I wanted to try it for a long time.
At first it took me a while to get the hang of the goupillon, it is not symmetrical, it has two concave sides and two convex sides (I think it is clearer in the photos ????) and it is made of silicone.
But once I found a way to style them well… my goodness! It combs them great and leaves them voluminous and extra-long.
That is why many times we should not trust first impressions and give products more chances, it can be that at first, we do not like something just because we have applied it wrong and then it becomes one of our favourites.
However, be careful when combing the root of the eyelashes, if you do it hard you can hurt yourself a little with the silicone of the applicator.
Low-cost mascara
In this range, the shop assistant did not hesitate for a second, she took me straight to the Essence brand, specifically to the I Extreme Crazy Volume mascara.
My first impression was totally different to the one I had when I tried the Lancôme one, it is very dense and the goupillon pulls out too much product, so you have to remove a little bit to avoid clumping the lashes.
The applicator is made of silicone like the On the rise mascara but is cylindrical like the Hypnôse one, but with a small difference.
At the head of the “brush”, it also has small silicone hairs to reach the smallest areas, which I really liked to reach all the lashes.
The reality is that it leaves beautiful lashes, but you have to work it a lot to avoid clumping, as it is a bit hard to comb them out, but overall, I like it a lot.
A little tip
If you are like me and love long lashes that frame your eyes, Essence has come out with a primer that I never thought would work so well.
to dry, applying the mascara immediately afterwards, waiting a minute…) and the way I have liked the most is to wait a little bit, but without it being completely dry.
What a difference with primer and without primer
Now the moment of truth has arrived… which mascara do I choose from the ones I have tried? Well, without a doubt with the NYX On the rise and if we put the Essence primer underneath, it is the winning combo!
Lancôme’s Hypnôse Waterproof mascara improves a lot with primer and, of course, if you want an extra-long, well-defined lash, this is the mascara for you.
In the case of Essence’s I Extreme Crazy Volume, I really liked the applicator, but I think that, as so much product comes out at once, it is much harder to work with, although the result is very nice.
Have you tried these mascaras, which one is your favourite and why? Let me know in the comments what your top one is, I love to read you
